The short answer
Vision 2030 would make Burnaby one of Canada's most efficient cities: fewer duplicate steps, modern tools including artificial intelligence where it helps, published service standards, and regular neighbourhood town halls so decisions are explained before they're made.
Three things to know
- The same civic slate has held a council majority in Burnaby for decades. In 2022 the mayor ran unopposed; in 2026 residents have a real choice.
- Residents rarely object to a decision as much as to finding out about it afterwards — there is no public question period after council meetings today.
- Most people want one thing from City Hall: tell me where my file stands and who decided what.
The honest comparison
What residents are asking
- Has City Hall actually become more efficient over the past eight years?
- Why is it so hard to find out where a proposal stands?
- After all the studies, what measurably improved?
My approach
- Publish service standards for the things residents use most, and report performance openly.
- Cut duplication and use modern tools — including artificial intelligence where it genuinely helps — to serve people faster.
- Publish the full approved cost, current forecast, timeline and accountable lead for every major city project.
- Hold regular neighbourhood town halls in every part of the city, including evenings and weekends, and reach renters, newcomers and young families in the languages they speak.
What you can hold me to
- 01A public question period after every council meeting, so residents can ask questions in the open.
- 02A public service-standards dashboard covering permits, safety reports and common requests.
- 03Plain-language project reporting that shows approved cost, current forecast, delivery date and who is accountable.
- 04Neighbourhood town halls across Burnaby every year, with what we heard and what happens next published afterwards.

For Mayor of Burnaby
“Spending money to study a problem is not the same as solving it. Set standards. Measure results. Publish them.”

Questions people ask
- What does 'most efficient city in Canada' mean?
- It means benchmarking our service costs and turnaround times against comparable cities, adopting what works better, and publishing the comparison so residents can judge.
- Where does AI fit into city government?
- In the back office: summarising documents, routing requests, spotting duplicate processes. It should reduce paperwork for staff, not replace judgement or public accountability.
- How would town halls be different?
- Held before decisions rather than after, in every part of the city, at times working people can attend, with a published record of what was heard.
